All he wants is transparency. When you’re dealing With customers or clients, you tell them what they want to hear. You’re honest. It’s really that simple when you’re in sales. His pitch was awful. It’s like not being able to give a ballpark on a monthly payment of a vehicle.

Homeowner is just old, the new world does business like this or we wouldn’t make any money. Times have changed.

The kid is still new to the game, doesn’t know how to talk to his clients appropriately, and doesn’t understand what the homeowner is asking for.

I am with the homeowner. Its feels like a scam not to estimate an hourly rate for a job. Ballpark kiddo, he is trying to feel at ease. Easy swing and a miss on this one

Give him an estimate ding dong. Sounds like you are trying to take advantage of the older gentleman and he saw through the bull snot.

Walk away from that job. It's not going to be worth it when the complaint comes in.

Homeowner IS wrong. The provider can price the job as a fixed bid based on the job scope or time and materials based on job scope. Or both. Homeowner can take it or leave it. To demand some hourly rate (and then a fixed effort/hours estimate) is fine only if provider agrees.

Old man isn’t correct. He said it doesn’t matter how many guys 1 or 5 buy that does absolutely matter if there’s five guys that might only take one hour if there’s one guy might take five hours there’s no telling the job is based off profit margin just like literally anything else

The reason a price per hour is not giving is because sometimes you can send 5 people and it will take 2 hours - Same Job, send 2 people and it can take 5 hours.

Could have just told them he pays his guys between $20-$30 an hour based on experience. Indeed has their average pay per employee at $24. The old timer is right, people don't get paid based on vibes.

Anyone on the home owners side is dumb. Projects are quoted at a set price. No self respecting contactor offers an hourly rate.

@ko_fights__ Self-employed charge a job price. The homeowner isn’t employing him full-time, just for the satisfactory compilation of the job. Paying by the hour means the homeowner owns them and we’ll start trying to control the job i.e. you’re not working hard/quick enough.

There are a lot of old fucks like this that like to just run their mouths and tell you how old they are. For Gods sake the young man told you he’ll give you a price for the total job & you can’t shut the fuck up about an hourly rate!

Im with the worker on this one. u can say yes or no 2 the price. If u dont like how they do things, say no. I will say its a bit strange they refuse 2 tell them their hourly/sf/per plant rate, but thats not the point. Just say yes or no. The business can make changes if need b

I’m a co owner of a landscaping company and I charge for how sq footage , labor , and cost of which type of mulch he wants . Him asking how much a hour is stupid a job like this would take my crew maybe a hour then I tell him $400 a hour then it takes longer then he’s over paying this old guy doesn’t know what he talking about

That guy voted to deport the cheap labor now doesn't like the result

Old and retarded The issue is incentives. If you pay hourly, the worker gets rewarded for taking longer. If you pay for the job, the worker gets rewarded for being efficient and experienced. You're not paying for the hours, you're paying for the result. A guy who can do it in 2 hours because he knows what he's doing is usually worth more than a guy who needs 8.

Spoken like a man who had a non-skilled union factory job which paid for that little house he has, his kids education, gave him a pension, then voted to gut labor laws his whole life and now complains about how new generations just "don't want to work anymore" 🙄🙄

I understand you charge different hourly rates depending on the difficulty of the job, but you’ve laid eyes on the job, you’ve likely laid mulch etc, there’s no reason not to give a ballpark hourly rate. This guy refused to answer any questions which screams scam.

YZRAIDERMAGA22's profile picture

Alot of people charge by the job and not the hour. The salesman should have just estimated the hours it would take and divide that by the total cost of job to keep this old retard happy.
