This bill criminalizes the victims of crime. If a criminal breaks into your car and steals your firearm, YOU get in trouble. It was already bad policy, but the Conference Committee made the bill even worse. It specifically exempts members of the General Assembly from the law! It’s yet another example of “rules for thee, but not for me.”

#WATCH | Sivaganga: Tamil Nadu: On FCRA Bill, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram says, "Initially, the government proposed the FCRA bill. There was a lot of pushback from civic groups and from religious minority groups. The government seems to have had consultations with those groups. They haven't tabled the bill. Only when they table the bill will we see whether they have brought about any changes. But if the bill is brought about in the original format, we will stoutly oppose it because it is yet another example of weaponizing the law and bringing institutions and bodies, which are not aligned with the political ideology of the ruling dispensation, under their control. So, we will oppose it, but we'll have to see the final version of the bill if it's placed in parliament."

We had asked him to implement it immediately with the existing strength of 543 Lok Sabha seats. Now, suddenly, he is claiming that the Congress and other opposition parties opposed the bill and that this is why it failed. This is not Women’s Reservation Bill; it's delimitation.
