Honestly had no idea people disliked Man on Fire (released OTD in 2004). I get it: the editing’s frenetic and Tony Scott shoots every scene like it's a car chase, but a 39% RT rating is nuts. It’s one of the most Denzel Denzel movies ever. What am I missing?

I think I saw it multiple times in the theater and it was one my dad’s favorite as well. Who didn’t like it?

I had no idea the RT score was that low. Another reason I don’t fuck with the tomato people. If anything I found #IMDb to be a better barometer for visual media.

That's a lot better. Why is RT even a thing? Absolutely useless.

A lot of people have no idea that it was a remake.

Nothing. You are correct. This film is underrated classic. Perfectly cast. Walken is immense ‘A man can be artist……’ speech worth entrance money alone. It’s a tear-jerking powerhouse of a film. One of Denzel’s best imo

This is a fantastic movie. The overly jiggly filming bugs me, but it's a great storyline, and the cinematography is beautiful. And Creasy's relationship with Pita? Man, that's beautiful. (Loved seeing the actors reunited in The Equalizer 3.)

My VERY favorite movie. “Man can make anything art. Creasy’s art is death, and he’s about to paint his masterpiece”.

Tell me you don't know anything about Tony Scott then... It starts with Top Gun for most people of my age and it's just banger after banger from there.

Don't worry, I've seen all of Tony Scott's films. I even went to see Revenge.

I'm not talking about YOU. I'm talking about people who have bad things to say about Man on Fire... The Madeline Stowe era was pretty epic.

I might have to post something from Revenge now 😂🤣😂

Remember that throw-away Mark Harmon movie Worth Winning? We must have watched that 100 times in college... a Madeleine Stowe video would be most welcome. It's what we had before the world gave us Jennifer Connelly.

@cdvillasenor You know Movies! Revenge is so underrated. My Father (R.I.P.) showed me this movie, Costner and Stowe damn. Quinn was a villain like no other.

@cdvillasenor Your dad had great taste. Revenge deserves more love.

It’s a much bleaker version of Equalizer, a dose of hardcore reality and determination. I love it and own the dvd.

Rotten Tomato critics automatically vote down anything that doesn't fit into their woke paradigm. So shoving a bomb up a dude's ass is considered anti gay. If I see a bad Rotten Tomato critic score, chances are it's a good film.

Think about the types of people that are active on RT. Now think about the subject matter of the film in relation to their ideology and mindset. That tells you everything you need to know about the rating. One of the few times Denzel just being Denzel actually works. Great movie.

Fave! Dakota Fanning is amazing. Same with Christopher Walken!

Use the RT critic rating in reverse. You're welcome.

This movie may be too violent and also depressing due to Creasy's PTSD and alcoholism for the masses. It was excellent. I would also suggest reading the book it was based on by A.J. Quinell. He actually wrote 5 books about Creasy.

Terrific movie, Walken was great especially the scene where he is explaining to the police how Denzel's character was painting his masterpiece...

NEVER do that. NEVER trust Hollywood critics, they are bought and paid for. ALWAYS go to the people's score (89%)! Until that is manipulated too - then f RT all the way off.

For me: It's the left to right camera style... Watch Unstoppable to see Tom Scott at his worst...

A beautiful story of redemption, a man bringing justice to the unjust & corrupt. He executes kidnappers, child traffickers, criminals & police, saves a bunch of little girls along the way. In the end he trades his own life for a girl, it's obvious why the epstein class hates it.

It's the editing. I like the movie, but I can't watch it without rolling my eyes at the "stylistic" look. There's a fine line between "style" and "pretentious dogshit" and the editor flung himself across it with wild abandon.

A lot of people, I think, get hung up on the excessive style of it, and the elliptical editing, and the inexplicable subtitles that pop up even when English is spoken. I could do without a lot of that, too, but this is one of the few T.S. films that spark conversation and discussion (CRIMSON TIDE is another one), and I cherish it for that.

A showcase of Denzel Washington’s skill as an actor. He captures the small moments of despair, and the complexity of finding something to live for in this role better than anyone. So much to love about this movie.

Love the movie, the brutality of the thing, and even the distinct editing. Not only is it one of Denzel's best, but I think it might be Tony Scott's best. I revisit it more often than Top Gun and Crimson Tide; my only reservation is True Romance.

Christopher Walken delivers one of the coldest lines in movie history when describing Denzel's character... "A man can be an artist at anything... Food, whatever... Creasy's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece."

Wait, what? That’s a thing? I love this movie and think it’s some of his best work. He was not someone I would have expected for a role like that before seeing him in it, though. I’m old enough to remember Glory Denzel as the main measuring post. But because of this role he WAS believable and someone I would have expected to see in The Equalizer series.

Original ending had Denzel killing the bad guys by sticking a bomb up his own butt. They re-cut it and had to add title cards to the end.

Why does ANYONE look at the critic rating?? Most critics are hacks, looking for problems, seeking perfection. This is a well known issue with RT as well though, so anyone ignorant enough to quote it is part of the problem. 89% of 250k audience votes matter much much more.

You’re not missing anything. They are. A great story of redemption, of love, and of vengeance. The score says more about the people who made it than it does about an excellent film.

I like Man on Fire but I have issues with it. My biggest issue is with the final third act. Either Dakota's dead and it's a revenge story or she's been kidnapped and it's a race around the clock thriller. They tried to have it both ways and it doesn't work

Great movie - formed a bond with the little girl & exhausted all avenues using the violent knowledge & tools in his repertoire to get her back & ultimately gave up his life for her. Some say the violence was over the top but in a society like that, it’s needed to get results

Oh it’s not a bad film and story at all, it’s just that the editing was THAT bad. This era of action films damn near ruined what a good action scene looked like. (Looking at you Jason Bourne)

Because he dies in the end. For the story it absolutely makes sense, but people don’t want the hero to die especially when it’s someone as likable as Denzel Washington. I like the movie but I don’t ever rewatch it because I don’t like the ending.
