As an Aussie I can say I've walked around a heap barefoot. Yeah your feet get dirty but you've probably been at the beach and we're walking barefoot there to start off with so they're already dirty and your gonna wash em when u get home anyway so what's the big deal. Most streets are clean enough to walk barefoot but hazards like sharp stones/ tambark from gardens or the dreaded broken glass bottle are always front of mind to watch out for. black asphalt on a 44c degree summer day does burn you feet so you look to run to shaded areas or stick to the grass whenever ever possible. Not all places will accept you barefoot. A lot of pubs/RSLs have a no shoes no shirt no service policy. Mainly because there's glass around and its a liability issue for the establishment. This isn't always a hard and fast rule tho. Sometimes they let it slide or they dont notice and you get away with it. Most shops will allow u to stroll in barefoot. Especially your local 711 or milk bar shop. Walking barefoot in large shopping centres isn't as common but accepted especially during summer were the cold tiles/ concrete is pleasant, cooling and soothing to walk on and normally pretty clean. Ive gone a whole week or 2 barefoot over summer holidays and only begrudgingly put thongs or shoes on when I absolutely forced too. Its a custom ive never really considered as abnormal. Sometimes you forget your thongs at the beach so u go barefoot. Sometimes its so hot wearing shoes is unbearable and your trying to stay cool so you go barefoot. Other times its laziness. Why put shoes on to walk around the corner to 711 when your going to get a slurpie and its a 5 minute walk there and back. A lot of the time its just nice to walk on the grass barefoot. However this is sometimes fraught with risk as you won't always watch were your walking and you'll step in some dog poop and then regret all the choices you make in life and you'll swear never to walk barefoot again. That's until summer rolls around again and u find yourself near a beach walking barefoot trying to calculate a safe path past a gravel driveway on your way back home.

Although I agree. This is probably close to a beach. But also their inflation is insane dude. It's 50 AUD for a watermelon... great people.. terrible government. There are give and takes there. They need to fight for their way of living and keep their streets clean and safe. But don't get it twisted its not like this everywhere.

Australia is famous for its many venomous animals (spiders, snakes, scorpions), so I wouldn’t guess people there like to walk barefoot.
