Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State instructed all oil and gas companies operating in Imo State to maintain addresses there and pay their taxes in Imo State Government, stating that they cannot drill oil and gas from Imo State while paying taxes in Lagos. They gave excuses such as insecurity, lack of standard hotels, and Owerri not being well structured to fit their luxury lifestyles. - This project is a PPP project between the Imo State Government and the Egyptian energy company Madkour Group - The substation is owned by Orashi Electrical Company Limited, formed in 2024 - The Orashi substation is located in New Owerri and is the pilot initiative for "Light Up Imo" which is supposed to bring power to all 27 Local Governments in Imo State - It reduces reliance on the national grid and allows Imo State to be energy independent and sufficient - it paves the way for 24/7 power to be established in Imo, leveraging its gas supply. Kudos to Governor Hope Uzodimma Hope Uzodimma for this initiative. We hope other Eastern Governors will copy Imo and Abia to electrify the region.
