My first job after military service 38 years ago, really really messy, and everything had to be dipped in hydrochloric acid before dipping it in the hot zinc. Had the job for 1 year before I went to university. Gotta earn a living.

One of the most dangerous jobs in industry. It the part is not properly cleaned or fully dried from the prep tanks a drop of water can blow the zinc upwards. I've seen workers with half their face covered in it. That's a process that requires robots and automation.

To add clarity, hot dip galvanizing protects steel by means of localized cathodic protection. The zinc acts as the sacrificial anode. So, unlike paint, it will protect the steel substrate even if the substrate becomes exposed. Painting over it is even better. Although paint adheres to galvannealed material better, companies do have success painting galvanized parts. There is no better way to protect steel from rusting than what you see above in the video. Short of full cathodic protection, which is commonly used to protect the hulls of ships.
