Hot Summer Rain

Hi ive been slowly getting into watercolour myself and I wanted to ask: what is this translucent layer over the artwork before you start with the painting itself? I am very curious

It's a layer of water soaked into the paper, it allows the pigment to spread evenly and smoothly.

Hi I wanted to thank you again for the amazing advice. I tried it out and It worked wonders on my art. It still has some mistakes since im a newbie In the medium but Im really exited to further improve! Thank you again

nice
