Years ago I heard a quote that really stuck with me: Americans think 100 years is a long time; British think 100 miles is a long distance.

We could drive for 9 hours and barely cross a state line.

Brits not understanding they are on the beginner island.

Texas is huge, El Paso Texas is closer to San Diego California than it is to Houston Texas.

What is it about Europeans that they don't understand that our 50 states are very much like European countries?

The European mind cannot comprehend that we sometimes have to add another 2 hours driving down the road when we can't change lanes, so we gotta look for the next u-turn (normally at least 10 miles away)

The difference in perspective is funny. We will drive 3.5 hours to watch sn NFL game - and home the same day, and not give it another thought…and yes 2 hours to my fav restaurant.

Because it’s all relative mate? If I asked someone to get something from a room, and it was on the opposite side of the room to another item that was larger and easier to spot, I wouldn’t say that they’re close to each other, because relative to the place in which we are talking about, they aren’t? Not really hard to understand?
