my father worked most his life to support those around him. his family, his siblings, his parents, his extended family. he didn’t have much, but he always did his best. he gave so much to everyone around him, it even caused fights between him and mum. he is a giver. truly a kind man. my father taught me mathematics in JS1, and all through secondary school i carried math prize. from JS1 to SS3. his math lessons laid the foundation for the engineering mind i have today. i also represented my school in competitions and olympiads. came fourth nationwide in one of them. how he had the patience to teach me all those years ago, even when his life was filled with stress and responsibilities i knew nothing about. my dad is one of those who inspired me to excel from a young age. a true great man. Happy Father’s Day!!

On Sunday we laid to rest my mother in law after losing her to cancer. I first met her when I was 22 and she treated me like a son ever since. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, she always remembered who I was because she appreciated our banjo sessions. She was a country girl who somehow got hired by the CIA while still a teenager in the mid 50s, married an analyst there, and worked as a family team on the Cuban Missile Crisis, also serving overseas during Vietnam, raising 6 successful children and 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was married 62 years. She never had anything negative to say about anyone. She was always smiling. She never lost her temper. She was unconditionally trustworthy and completely devoted to her country, her family, and her God. I will miss her.

I'd like to pay my respects to crypto.Darren🪝 🏴‍☠️ who we lost yesterday. I spoke with Darren many times over the last couple of years about XRP, crypto, and life in general. He was the ultimate gentleman and scholar. What exemplifies Darren more than anything, I think, is when his crypto got hacked a couple months ago and he lost almost everything; his first instinct was to post about how it happened so that no one else would make the same mistake. That was his nature. Darren had great enthusiasm for privacy and liberty. He educated people, including me, about privacy, defi, and above all, Liberty. He never wavered from those ideals for a quick buck (and he had many opportunities). He brought a lot of people into this space with his well-researched videos and commentary. The XRP and crypto community really lost a good one yesterday. RIP Darren Moore, and thank you sir.

On this day, 5 years ago, I was isolated in a Covid ward - on my birthday. I could not breathe, eat or drink. I couldn't see my husband, as he was at home, taking care of our son who also had Covid. I vaguely remember hearing doctors mentioning "ICU", nurses singing happy birthday & begging me to eat applesauce or else I might need an NG tube. I had almost died once in April 2019. I thought this time I was most certainly going to die. Six months later, I wish I had. The #LongCovid community knows my story after that. How the whole world came together, in a spirit of generosity, to take me back to India in an air ambulance, how the amazing doctors Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre saved me and brought me back to life, how my husband, son, parents & brother took care of me, how I had to give up practising law but slowly came back to it (albeit in a limited way but with all my clients waiting for me). As I write this while hooked to my BiPAP (12 hours a day), relying on a wheelchair & oxygen machine while I leave the house, being able to eat ten things, and barely remembering how life was before my birthday in 2021, I am grateful for one thing: that I am alive to raise my son, teaching him to manage his congenital conditions and live a good life. Everything else is just added bonus. Today PEM has met PMS, on a gloomy day in the Netherlands. So I'm going to be in bed, with my beloved BiPAP, and listen to Stray Kids (on the cool, CD player that my boys gifted - thank you, Anand). I may be fatigued to my bones but I shall rest in style.

Almost seven years ago to the day back in February of 2019, I got a text in the middle of the afternoon from my good friend, billy d. washington. He informed me—a noted “Dawson’s Creek” fan—that he was working on a project with James Van Der Beek. About a half hour later I was texted the video posted here. Just an incredibly kind individual who was never about the “Hollywood life,” by all accounts. Along with the loss of Brad Arnold this has been an excruciating week of loss for us 40-something types. Thoughts to his beautiful family during this time… 💔

I was hit with the news yesterday that my first Navy mentor, Rob Roy, passed away. Rob served 26 years in the Navy, including 20 years in the SEAL Teams. He served with DEVGRU on the East Coast and with Teams on the West Coast. When I was going through the screening process for BUD/S, Rob was in charge of the program. After I passed and received orders, he took me under his wing and spent countless weekends helping me prepare for training. After I left the Navy in 2016, Rob gave me a side gig training civilians who had earned SEAL contracts and were preparing for BUD/S. Yesterday morning, Rob was experiencing chest pains, so he drove himself to Naval Medical Center San Diego, and passed away from a heart attack at the gate. Rob had a tremendous impact on my life and on the lives of many others he mentored over the years. Till we meet again, brother. #LLTB
