How airplanes stay in the air explained simply

It’s sorcery I don’t care what anyone says.

All of that seems logical except "the air traveling over the wing has to cover more distance so it moves faster". Why? More distance would mean it would take LONGER for the air to go over the wing unless it can be explained, "what's pushing the air?"
