A lot of people spent last week saying Anne Frank's words weren't REALLY banned from a Texas school, that it was some graphic sex book. So I actually looked at the book. What I learned: —It is literally just an illustrated version of Anne Frank's actual diary. —They banned it.

Also, check out how INSANE local news coverage was of Anne Frank's Diary getting banned. "Amy thought school was a safe zone from sexually explicit instruction until... [a] teacher exposed them to a graphic adaptation of Anne Frank's diary." This is from a CBS affiliate!

I read the diary of Anne Frank when I was in 7th grade when I was 12 maybe 13. The diary is what opened my eyes to a world outside of Kansas & to a girl my age going thru a hell I had never known about. It’s where my lifelong interest in history began and how to not repeat it.

Is this absurd? A middle school teacher in Jefferson County, Texas has just been fired for assigning the illustrated version of Anne Frank’s Diary to eighth grade students. The book, “Anne Frank’s Diary: The Graphic Adaptation,” is a graphical representation of the book that Anne Frank wrote when she was approximately the same age as these teenagers. If Anne Frank wrote about it in the 1940s, don’t you think it’s appropriate for 13 year olds today to read it as well? Don’t you think the history in the book greatly outweighs concerns that schools should have? Are people being too extreme with their issues with these books today?
