It's the only thing people value in our culture and as long as you make good money, it means you are successful regardless of how unhealthy, unhappy, divorced, or addicted you are. Its so valued in fact that most of these people are probably in massive debt just so they can appear to have made more money than they actually have, because that is the only metric of success that matters in America.
