The idea was these actors were the ‘ghosts’ of an individual soldier killed in WWI. When they passed out the cards to the public many bust into tears or thanked them for their sacrifice. We simply do not have a clue what these men suffered for our country. I wonder if they would be proud of what Britain has become, frankly I’m not sure.

Sapper Ernest Pickford 19th November 1916, Battle of Ancre, France, memoralised at Thiepval Memorial, he was only 19, my grandmothers brother.. She carried his last letter written in pencil on YMCA letterhead til the day she died at 106 ! Signed ‘Your Everloving Brother Ernest’

My grandad was in the Navy and fought at the Battle of Jutland and would never talk about it. He also took a little boat to Dunkirk. He was proud of that.
