The Iranian people are paying an enormous price. But despite the claims of some naïve politicians, they are victims of the Islamic Republic’s warmongering policies—not of any foreign government. For 47 years, the terrorist regime of the Islamic Republic has spent the Iranian people’s oil and gas wealth on Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen, ballistic missiles, its nuclear weapons program, and other terrorist activities, instead of investing in the prosperity and well-being of the Iranian people. Economic sanctions cripple this regime. The regime has never used the nation’s oil revenues for the benefit of its people, and it never will. Terrorism is expensive, and every additional source of revenue strengthens its machinery of repression and aggression. Anyone who believes that lifting or easing sanctions benefits the Iranian people should understand that sending more money to the Ayatollahs only provides them with more resources to oppress their own people, finance terrorism, and threaten the free world. The only lasting solution is to confront this regime until it is overthrown. The regime occupying Iran does not represent the Iranian nation. The Iranian people are pro-democracy and friends of the West. It is time for the West to stand with them and abandon the failed policy of aimless diplomacy.
