Yesterday, we came together to honor Governor Pete Wilson. I told everyone there I wanted to share it with the world, because everyone needed to see how Democrats and Republicans can come together and respect each other. We don’t need to see each other as the enemy. Governor Wilson is a Republican, but Speaker Willie Brown, the Democratic leader he battled with in negotiations, was right there with him. Governor Davis, a Democrat, led the meeting. You all know we battled it out in an election and I’m a Republican, but you may not know we are great friends and still work together. We need to step back from this insane politics of hatred and division and learn that we will only get things done by working together. Why hasn’t Washington done anything on immigration or the debt in decades? I would say because they haven’t learned what we have learned in California - that we can disagree but still work together, still respect each other, and still put the people first. I hope this inspires you to lay down your partisan weapons and find a way to see the people who disagree with you with respect.

But this year, there are no protesters outside. I come to find out the people were actually milling about into the lobby. When I got off of the scooter and into in front of the barricade, usually you have to show ID and a ticket. The folks, the security at the gate, these were not agents, the Secret Service agents. They were not identified as Secret Service agents that I could see at the gate, but they did not ask me to show ID, and they did not ask me to show a ticket. They said, 'Oh, you're good. I'm sure you're going to your room.' I am not staying at the Washington Hilton. As I entered into the driveway, I saw the president's vehicle. The Beast was driving around in the circle of the Hilton driveway, and people walking around near it, taking photos. Secret Service was not keeping a perimeter. And it went around about two or three times while I was outside. When I entered into the Hilton, I asked Secret Service agents, which I saw they were identified as Secret Service agents, which way the ballroom was, and they said they didn't know. When I finally got my way onto elevator, no one asked me to show ID. No one asked me to show a ticket. I got all the way down to the red carpet area without ever showing a ticket to anyone in the Hilton. I am saying it like this because this is unusual."

#WATCH | Srinagar | On visiting the Mazar-e-Shuhada on the occasion of Martyrs' Day yesterday, J&K CM Omar Abdullah says, "It is unfortunate that by the orders of those who claim their responsibility is to maintain law and order, we were not allowed to recite the Fatiha yesterday. Everyone was house-arrested since the morning. When I told the control room that I wanted to come here to recite Fatiha, bunkers were installed outside my house within minutes. And they remained there till 12-1 am. Today, I came here without informing anyone. Today, too, they tried to stop us... I want to know under which law I was stopped... They say that this is a free country, but they think that we are their slaves. We are nobody's slaves. We are only the slaves of the people here... We foiled their attempts... They tried to tear our flag. But we came here and recited the Fatiha. They forget that these graves will always remain here. They stopped us on July 13, but for how long can they continue to do so? We will come here whenever we want and remember the martyrs..."
