Colors fade with water depth because water absorbs different wavelengths of light, starting with reds and oranges, leaving only blues and greens to penetrate deeper.

Saw this in an advanced diving course. Even nicer is breaking an egg at 30 meters depth; it shows visually that pressure is isotropic.

My take on that when SCUBA diving a few years ago in the Irish Sea off the coast of the Isle of Man.

So the deep sea fish that are bright & colorful I’m curious what color they are if brought to a shallow depth …
