Mechanical ventilation is employed where air can not reach naturally to maintain adequate supply of oxygen,remove heat,dust & gases etc.The Self Contained Self Rescuer however is a contingency to buy the exposed person time while escaping a dangerous atmosphere into Refuge Bay.

@waserongoane Breathing is normal, but other areas of the mine can be warm. Breathing warm air is not very nice.

In underground Coal Mining we use Ventilation Fans which are heavy-duty axial fans designed specifically for Main mine Ventilation.They use the shaft whole to send fresh are underground and there would be just an open shaft further way to allow more fresh air
