Wrapped up an awesome week and a half of #helicopter flying with the Colorado Army National Guard team in Gypsum, Colorado at their High-Altitude ARNG Aviation Training Site (HAATS). We saw how crew coordination fits into power management, actively interpreted what the aircraft and environment are telling us, dealt with visual illusions in the mountains, and worked together to deal with any misinterpretations. This training will come in handy to prepare us for NASA Artemis moon landings!

It became one of the clearest demonstrations of gravity ever filmed on another world. And now, with Artemis II targeted for tomorrow, NASA is preparing to send astronauts back around the Moon in the next chapter of lunar exploration.

Two weeks at the bottom of the sea. As part of astronaut training we lived in Aquarius, 60 feet down, off the Florida Keys. We simulated Mars ops with a 30-minute time lag on all communications, so we sent videos to mission control. A great place to simulate Moon/Mars gravity for spacewalks, using weights and water buoyancy. Also for learning the forced, beautiful isolation of life on a space station. (featuring Dr. Steve Chappel and Tom Marshburn)

Retired NASA astronaut Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) says the Artemis II mission “is risky,” but he adds, “Is it worth it?
