Serious question but if she has hearing protection on shouldn’t the dogs also have some protection, wouldn’t their ears be more sensitive than ours?

Part of it is to get dogs that are bred to do it. I have two field goldens who could easily do this. I can even yell other names and they won’t release until they hear theirs.

One thing we’ve trained our dogs to do is wait for their food. We prepare it, put it in the bowls, and set them on the floor. They sit patiently in the other room, staring intently, but won’t touch a thing until we say “OK, eat.” 😄 So one time, my wife forgot to give the release command. She’s busy in the kitchen cleaning up and making our dinner. Almost two hours later, she glances over and sees the bowls still completely full. 🤔 “Oh shit—they’re still waiting for permission!” 🤣🤣 Oops 😂 They got a ton of extra treats that night for such incredible self-control. Good dogs! 🐶

In the video you shared, the trainer fires from right beside the sitting dogs, which maximizes noise exposure. Experienced trainers strongly recommend: • Not standing/firing right next to the dog. • Positioning the dog farther away. can develop progressive hearing loss over time sitting that close

@AKRule The same way you teach children to be good human beings - repetition and catching every misstep: “what” … “do you mean pardon?”. Holding onto requested sweet until please & thank you are used. “please can I leave the table” The problem is so many parents can’t be bothered.

There is a book by Richard Wolters that provides step by step instructions how to do exactly this. He wrote many books on training depending on the type of results.

The device is called a dummy launcher, uses blank .22 bullets. Although this looks amazing, this is actually simple for these dogs. This is not the hard stuff. If you want to be blown away at how intelligent and skillled these field dogs are, watch the competitions. Amazing!

Creating a voice cue for fetch is not that hard... You can start by placing a ball on the ground away from your dog. Hold the collar until you cue them to get the ball. Mark and reward. You can also do this with their food during feeding. It is also a good idea to create a strong recall cue. Whistles are great for that.

All animal training is: Consistency - same steps, same behavior criteria. (A sit means plant your butt, not wiggle, not stand back up again. Sit.) Patience - because teaching animals takes time. Timing - of your signals and reinforcement. Time these incorrectly and you're training the wrong behavior. Reinforcement - appropriate to your animal. Some love treats, some love toys, some just love a good scritch. Complex behaviors are broken down into steps or stages. Each step builds on the next, each needs to be fully understood by the animal before moving on to the next step. At this most basic level, this "works" to train dogs, cats, sea lions, wolves, cheetahs, birds of prey, and more. Frankly, I've not found an animal that does not respond to these steps. Sincerely, The retired pro exotic animal trainer.

Pretty similar to the way you can train a dog to go outside and take a shit in your yard without spending the remaining 19 hours barking at air. The problem is nobody with a fucking dog seems to understand the simplest concepts of training

Dogs are intelligent. If the master is willing to train them. Some don't wish to train their pets.

With that woman as a trainer, if she took me out there and told me to stay and then shot one out and told ne to fetch it I'd likely take off like a rocket. The last thing you want is for her to yell at you...wowzers.

Field dogs do this. My chocolate lab does this on the regular. But instead of a bumper she has a favorite duck and we use a whistle. She also listens to whistle commands of left, right, stop, in, out, and return.

It's a lot easier than it looks, it's about patience & good communication with your dog. Dogs are very much willing to learn, you just have to understand how they do.

..looks to me that she's trained them for duck hunting or similar..but they know what the real game at hand is..the projectile is supposedly a duck or bird of some sought that has been shot down, hence why their waiting until it lands is imperative..
