i could literally write a whole essay on this scene, how much time do you have

As Elphie falls to her death, her life is flashing before her eyes (all the voices) and all she can focus on is her younger self and the life that little girl lived and how she has the power to reach for and take her destiny into her own hands, doing right by that little girl

Her powers are linked to her emotions. While she is falling, her emotions are disregulated. When she reaches out to her younger self she is channeling her powers/emotions to save both of them.

John M Chu described this scene as the moment when Elphaba finally found the “purpose” of her power. Its not based on anger and hurt by the people around her, but based on ‘how she finally can accept herself’ 🤍

Elphaba breaks glass at several key moments in the movie as a symbol of her anger and power. Now as she is falling towards her death she’s looking at her reflection in the glass windows of the palace of the man who gave her mother the elixir in the green bottle that made her skin green. And that man is her father.

The fact that people dislike this scene so much is WILD TO ME like she didnt know if she could really fly she pretty much jumped out hoping something was gonna happen…and now people are saying it took away from the IT ME part of the song where i think it added more to it

This scene had me tearing up 🥲🥲

This scene gives me chills, no matter how many times I watch it

she learns to tune out the recriminating voices of her past, reconnects with her inner child, and only then she’s able to fly the fuck out of there 🥹

As she’s falling all the voices that told her she isn’t good enough in her life are drowning her out until she sees her reflection and sees her younger self in it and as she grabs the broom and flies it’s like her rising above it all and healing her inner child
