A few big reasons why: SPEED! McDaniel’s system A QB that can anticipate and throw receivers open w accuracy like Tua. That’s how they can do it. Now imagine if they actually fixed the o-line and weren’t one of the worst in pass protection? They’d be unstoppable with Tua and his receivers and 3 RBs that all run a 4.3 or less.

Because pass block win rate only counts snaps where the QB holds the ball longer than 2.5 seconds OR you lose your block. When you have the fewest attempts in the league over 2.5 seconds, then your losses are looked at as a higher percentage of overall countable snaps.

Tua’s elite “touch” allows the ball to travel through the air in an arc, w/timing & accuracy, giving WRs time to meet it exactly where he wants them to. This allows him to get the ball out quickly while also pushing downfield consistently. Rocket arms rarely have this ability.

PBWR is how often you hold your blocks for 2.5 seconds. The dolphins offense is about getting the ball out quickly, in under 2.5 seconds. Thats why their PBWR was low. They weren’t asked to block for that long most times, not because they had the second worst OL.

It’s also a sign of Mike McDaniel’s football genius, in that he recognized the kind of system that Tua was made for, and adjusted everything to his strengths. Flores tried using Tua like a traditional QB and that’s not what he’s best at. McDaniel saw from his college tape the throws he was best at, and made it easy for him to succeed. Not easy to get pressured so often and still lead the NFL in passing yards.
