Tejasvi Surya (तेजस्वी सूर्या) is a native Kannada speaker from Karnataka, just as Marathi is widely spoken across Maharashtra. Should a Kannada speaker be expected to speak Punjabi in Punjab, Pahari in Himachal, or Haryanvi in Haryana? Certainly not. The recent incident involving a bank employee being targeted over a language issue is deeply unfortunate. It reflects a disturbing trend — one that threatens to sow division in the name of identity. Language is a means to connect, not to divide or degrade. India’s strength lies in its diversity. And that strength is preserved not by making everyone the same, but by recognizing, accepting, and respecting our differences. Let us not forget — dignity, respect, and service must rise above language barriers. That's the essence of a united and inclusive India.

The lady says that "You are not in Bangladesh, You are at India" to another woman, for speaking bengali 🙂 She also adds, "You must speak and learn Hindi" ‼️ Hindi is not our national language. WHY WERE AFRICAN LANGUAGES MADE TO BE CONSIDERED INFERIOR? Why were Africans made to feel ashamed of their own languages? Kenyan literary giant Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o traces that question back to colonialism and to an experience that changed his own life. In 1977, Ngũgĩ was imprisoned by the Kenyan government for helping create the play “Ngaahika Ndeenda”– translated in English as "I Will Marry When I Want" – performed in Kikuyu, a local indigenous language. He had previously written plays in English critical of the post-colonial condition of his country, yet had never ended up in a maximum security prison. Ngũgĩ recounts how baffling it was for a post-colonial African government to imprison an African writer for helping produce a play in an African language. While in prison, he examined language as a tool of colonial power and concluded, “The colonizer always, in all situations, suppresses the language or the languages of the colonized and elevates their own language." Decades later, we can still see that colonial hierarchy in everyday life. If a parent wants to send a child to a “good school", that often means an English or French-speaking school. Speaking a Western language is often treated as a marker of education, class or sophistication, while our own languages and accents are too often dismissed as “local” or “backward”. Thus it’s important to remember that decolonization is not only about land, borders or political power, it’s also about whose language and whose knowledge we are taught to value.

💥REPORT: Immigration Canada denies a French national (who speaks fluent English) a work visa for failing an English exam — but Indians and Muslims who can't speak a lick of either official language are fast-tracked into the country. Tom Mandala has lived in Montreal for seven years, studying at UQAM, but his work visa was denied on the grounds that he didn’t include language proficiency in either French or English. From 2027, Zimbabwe will require every school without exception to register its learners for ZIMSEC examinations. The era of parallel foreign examination systems operating outside our national framework is over. It's mandatory for all students to write ZIMSEC. However, schools wishing to offer both ZIMSEC and Cambridge should apply for permission to do so provided there is justification for it. This is not an attack on academic excellence. We are not banning Cambridge examinations .This is an assertion of national sovereignty over our own Education System. Zimbabwe's children deserve to be assessed on a common, uniform standard one that this government controls, benchmarks, and continuously improves. For too long, a two-tier system has told some children that their futures are validated in Cambridge and told others that ZIMSEC is somehow second best. That ends now. Private institutions operating on Zimbabwean soil have a clear directive: align with the national framework. This is not negotiable. Government policy is unambiguous comply or fall out of step with the direction this Republic is moving. We are building one education system. One standard. One Zimbabwe. The question is: why wasn’t it? But the question I really wanted to ask today concerns this absurdity about the role, or lack of role, of the National Security Adviser. The government says he wasn’t involved in any matters of substance — but isn’t it the role of the National Security Adviser to be involved in all matters of substance when it comes to national security? So, what’s the point of a National Security Adviser who does not involve themselves in matters of national security, as in this case? Instead, we are meant to believe that the Deputy National Security Adviser is allowed, in this case, to involve themselves in substantial matters of national security, but not apparently discuss these substantial matters of national security with the National Security Adviser. This does seem to be an absolute matter of substantial absurdity.

Hindi is not India’s national language. When you come to Bengaluru, you find signboards and route maps in English so that you can navigate and communicate easily. When you visit another state, is it really reasonable to expect people to conduct their affairs in your language? Respect the local language or at least learn English, which serves as a common link language. When Kannadigas visit your states, do we demand that everyone speak Kannada? Respect works both ways. My Fellow South Africans, On the 13th of September this year, I signed into law the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act. This Act is vital to the transformation of the education system in our country. The Act is an important part of ongoing efforts to build an education system that is more effective and more equitable in line with the precepts of our Constitution. The BELA Act continues the work that has been done over the last 30 years to ensure that all children have equal access to quality education – from their early years and throughout their schooling. As a democratic country committed to building a new society, we have stated unequivocally that all children must get an education that prepares them to succeed in life, no matter what the circumstances of their birth might be, no matter where they live, no matter what language they speak. In implementing this Act we are all ultimately guided by the Constitution. The Bill of Rights guarantees the right of every person to equality. It guarantees the right of every person to receive a basic education. Importantly, the Constitution says that every person has the right to receive education in the official language or languages of their choice where reasonably practicable. This is a right that applies equally to an English-speaker as it does a Zulu-speaker. It applies equally to someone who speaks Afrikaans as it does to someone who speaks Xitsonga, Sesotho, Sepedi, isiXhosa, Setswana, Tshivenda, isiNdebele or siSwati. And now, it also applies equally to someone who uses the South African Sign Language. The Basic Education Laws Amendment Act enacts measures that strengthen the ability of our schools to give effect to these Constitutional rights. In the application of this law, we must ensure that no language is diminished. Rather, we must work to ensure that all official languages are valued and promoted. At the time that I assented to the BELA Bill, I noted that a number of parties to the Government of National Unity and other key role players in our country had expressed their wish to further engage each other on sections of the bill that deal with issues of admission and language. I said that whilst I had assented to the Bill, in the spirit of cooperation and meaningful engagement, I would delay the implementation date of the BELA Act in totality by three months. This would give the parties time to deliberate on these issues and make proposals on how the divergent views may be accommodated. I also said should the parties not agree on an approach at the end of the three-month period, I would then direct the Minister and the Department to proceed with the implementation of the Act. Over the last three months, discussions have been held with a view of reaching consensus on these outstanding clauses of the BELA Act. Various formations outside of government have also made representations, both for and against the relevant sections. Last week, I received a report from the Government of National Unity ‘clearing house’ mechanism. This is the structure which brings together the parties to the Government of National Unity and other parties represented in Parliament to deal with contentious issues and thereafter report to the leaders of the political parties represented in the Government of National Unity. In their final report, the parties agreed that the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act should not be sent back to Parliament to make changes to the sections that were in contention. The GNU clearing house participants agreed that the Act be fully implemented. This view was endorsed by the leaders of the parties to the GNU in a meeting I held with them today. My Fellow South Africans, On the 13th of September this year, I signed into law the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act. This Act is vital to the transformation of the education system in our country. The Act is an important part of ongoing efforts to build an education system that is more effective and more equitable in line with the precepts of our Constitution. The BELA Act continues the work that has been done over the last 30 years to ensure that all children have equal access to quality education – from their early years and throughout their schooling. As a democratic country committed to building a new society, we have stated unequivocally that all children must get an education that prepares them to succeed in life, no matter what the circumstances of their birth might be, no matter where they live, no matter what language they speak. In implementing this Act we are all ultimately guided by the Constitution. The Bill of Rights guarantees the right of every person to equality. It guarantees the right of every person to receive a basic education. Importantly, the Constitution says that every person has the right to receive education in the official language or languages of their choice where reasonably practicable. This is a right that applies equally to an English-speaker as it does a Zulu-speaker. It applies equally to someone who speaks Afrikaans as it does to someone who speaks Xitsonga, Sesotho, Sepedi, isiXhosa, Setswana, Tshivenda, isiNdebele or siSwati. And now, it also applies equally to someone who uses the South African Sign Language. The Basic Education Laws Amendment Act enacts measures that strengthen the ability of our schools to give effect to these Constitutional rights. In the application of this law, we must ensure that no language is diminished. Rather, we must work to ensure that all official languages are valued and promoted. At the time that I assented to the BELA Bill, I noted that a number of parties to the Government of National Unity and other key role players in our country had expressed their wish to further engage each other on sections of the bill that deal with issues of admission and language. I said that whilst I had assented to the Bill, in the spirit of cooperation and meaningful engagement, I would delay the implementation date of the BELA Act in totality by three months. This would give the parties time to deliberate on these issues and make proposals on how the divergent views may be accommodated. I also said should the parties not agree on an approach at the end of the three-month period, I would then direct the Minister and the Department to proceed with the implementation of the Act. Over the last three months, discussions have been held with a view of reaching consensus on these outstanding clauses of the BELA Act. Various formations outside of government have also made representations, both for and against the relevant sections. Last week, I received a report from the Government of National Unity ‘clearing house’ mechanism. This is the structure which brings together the parties to the Government of National Unity and other parties represented in Parliament to deal with contentious issues and thereafter report to the leaders of the political parties represented in the Government of National Unity. In their final report, the parties agreed that the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act should not be sent back to Parliament to make changes to the sections that were in contention. The GNU clearing house participants agreed that the Act be fully implemented. This view was endorsed by the leaders of the parties to the GNU in a meeting I held with them today. I accordingly advised them that I would proceed to sign a Presidential Proclamation to bring the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act into operation from today.

Meanwhile these same people will be blaming government everyday while looking forward and even praying for better life and development in their areas. How on earth could someone blame the government for this kind of crime?. Safeguarding of National Assets should be everybody's responsibility.
