That’s the problem; we mention ‘God’ only when it suits us. If that plane had left without him getting back his ring, you wouldn’t hear about it because there’s no way he would say God failed to answer his prayers and delay the flight. The same pattern exists in churches: when someone testifies about getting a job, there are countless others who lost theirs. When someone shares a testimony of evading an accident, there are others, often more devout, who tragically died in similar situations. It seems we selectively attribute outcomes to ‘God’ in favorable scenarios, while in unfavorable ones, we say He ‘works in mysterious ways’ or we won’t even say a thing at all. Personally, I feel there’s something unsettling about this. Beneath all the religious fervor, there appears to be a degree of manipulation at play.

Some of us will go to school, spend years learning logic, probability, and statistics, and still come back empty of sense.
