I just conducted unannounced oversight of the Northwest Detention Center, which serves my district, and what I witnessed was devastating. One woman, who has called this country home for 20 years, was detained just days before her wedding to a U.S. citizen. Another man, a legal permanent resident for 31 years, a proud member of the Machinists Union, and a father of three U.S. citizen children, is also being held in detention. Trump is detaining our neighbors, coworkers, and loved ones without guaranteed due process and no accountability. That’s not American; that’s authoritarianism. I will not back down from this fight.

They were given a choice: pay a 20,000 baht fine or face detention. He says he had enough money to cover the fines for his wife and children but not for himself—so he ended up spending 11 days in a Thai detention center.
