An excellent policy from Reform's Richard Tice MP 🇬🇧 Restricting social housing to British born is vital to solving UK housing crisis Foreign born pop: 2001: 8.3% 2021: 16.6% 2021-24: Boriswave Social housing is a NATIONAL asset built by BRITISH taxpayers for BRITISH people Yet successive governments have treated it as an international right. It is not. Social housing is a finite public resource. And quite simply too many people have arrived here in too short a time to allow the foreign born to occupy social housing. In 2021, 42% of the foreign born population of the UK had arrived in the previous decade alone (10 million people). 40% of Londoners are foreign born. British-born people whose families have paid in to this country must take priority over those who have come here recently. 1.3 million households are on the social housing waiting list. Of these approx. 195,000 are foreign. Reform estimates there are 540,000 foreign national households currently in social housing. If we house British nationals in those properties and remove foreign nationals from the waiting list, the waiting list will fall from 1.3 million to approx. 560,000. We would be mad not to adopt such a policy. Me on GB News:
