When she said "I am not dumb", an emotional force welled up within me and I became teary eyed. Amazing... That was the strongest emotional "feeling" I have felt in years...

Keller was the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1904, a part of Harvard University. She learned to communicate using the manual alphabet, which she felt through touch, thanks to her teacher Anne Sullivan. She also learned to read Braille and could understand speech through feeling vibrations on the speaker's lips.

In 1928, Keller herself described how she learned to talk. After mastering finger spelling and braille, her desire to speak grew. At age nine, she met Sarah Fuller, the principal of the Horace Mann School for the Deaf. Fuller helped Keller by placing her fingers on Fuller’s lips and throat, allowing her to feel the vibrations and movements involved in speech. By mimicking these movements, Keller slowly learned to produce sounds. Although her speech was not perfect, it was understandable to those familiar with her.Keller continued to work on her speech throughout her life and became a renowned speaker and advocate for people with disabilities. Her determination, combined with Sullivan’s teaching and Fuller’s guidance, allowed her to achieve what many thought was impossible
