You stood beside Israeli leaders. You spoke about the unbreakable alliance between the United States and Israel. You reminded Americans that Israel was America's closest democratic ally in the Middle East. You met Jewish leaders, reassured pro-Israel voters and donors, and returned home having demonstrated that supporting Israel was both morally right and strategically wise. That was the old Democratic Party. Today's Democratic Party is rapidly becoming something very different. Its loudest voices no longer celebrate the U.S.-Israel alliance. They question Israel's legitimacy. Many refuse to visit Israel altogether. Increasingly, the party's energy comes from an activist coalition that views Israel not as an ally, but as the embodiment of Western oppression. This coalition has become extraordinarily effective. It does not merely argue. It intimidates. It does not seek debate. It seeks ideological conformity. Those who refuse are branded racists, colonialists, fascists, or supporters of genocide. Careers are threatened. Institutions retreat. Politicians learn that silence—or worse, agreement—is often the safest political option. The result is that a vocal minority increasingly dictates the boundaries of acceptable opinion. Rahm Emanuel belongs to a different political generation. He comes from the old Democratic establishment. He understands the historic alliance between America and Israel. He understands why Israel matters strategically. He understands the history of Palestinian rejectionism. In his own speech, he acknowledged October 7, acknowledged Hamas' atrocities, and admitted that Israel repeatedly offered peace only to receive terrorism in return. None of that was new. By the end of my first term, the US-Israel relationship will be deeper and stronger than ever because it won’t be a client relationship, it will be a true friendship. The centerpiece of my Middle East policy in Year 1 will be to consummate “Abraham Accords 2.0” which will be good for the U.S. and good for Israel. If we can lead the way in helping Israel fully integrate into the economic and security infrastructure of the Middle East via Abraham Accords 2.0, it is better for everyone if Israel is truly able to stand on its own feet with support from partners across the Middle East that we diplomatically bring to the table. Yesterday, Israel rescued an Arab Muslim who was held hostage by Arab Islamist extremists. 52-year-old Qaid Farhan AlKadi was kidnapped on October 7 by Hamas who kept him in captivity for 326 days. Qaid went from being kidnapped, starved, and kept in captivity by Arab Islamist extremists in Gaza and is now being treated by Jewish Israeli doctors back in his home, Israel. And where do you think Qaid is going to go after his treatment? Egypt? Jordan? No, he’s going back to his home in Israel. This is what people who blindly hate Israel don’t understand, they truly believe that ”Israel hates Arabs and Muslims” when the reality is that Israel consists of more than 2 million Arab Muslims, who have 3 major Arabic political parties in Israel, 2 of which are currently in the parliament. Many Arab Israelis love Israel, and many Arab Israelis are critical of Israeli policies, just like Lebanese, Iraqis, and Syrians are critical of their governments’ policies. But at the end of the day, just as Lebanese call Lebanon their home, and Iraqis call Iraq their home, Arab Israelis call Israel their home.
