He claimed that government funds allocated for buffer stock purchases are not being used to buy their maize, while much of the maize consumed in the country is imported. He added that even during the economic challenges under the Akuffo-Addo era, farmers did not face such low patronage, urging the president to step in and help boost local maize consumption.

The government last month commissioned the first batch of the 100-grain dryers to assist farmers in mitigating post-harvest losses in 15 maize-growing counties. 2. This is the first phase of the government plan to support the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), and farmers with 200-grain dryers to curb post-harvest losses occasioned by poor storage, inadequate drying facilities, and poor weather conditions. 3. Each dryer has the capacity to dry 14 tons of maize in two hours.

Do you even know the reality of Punjab’s agriculture? Being a farmer let me tell you! Only around 3% of Punjab’s cropped area is under sugarcane and maize, while nearly 85% is dominated by wheat and paddy. With just around 3% of Punjab’s cropped area under sugarcane and maize, and virtually no farm machinery running on petrol, how exactly does a Punjab farmer benefit from ethanol-blended petrol? Yet a handful of people are being projected as if they represent every farmer in Punjab. These are the same vested interests that damaged the credibility of the farmers’ movement earlier, and now they’re again trying to speak for all Punjab farmers. With elections approaching, it’s hard not to question who benefits from this narrative. Want farmers to shift to maize or sugarcane? Then who will pay for the additional investment? A farmer would need to spend roughly ₹3–10 lakh on a maize harvester and another ₹7–10 lakh on specialised sugarcane trolly equipment. That’s an additional investment of ₹10–15 lakh only just on equipment only to wait an entire year for a sugarcane crop and see ruining the cars? On top of that, a large share of Punjab’s agricultural land simply isn’t well suited for sugarcane cultivation. Please stop these misleading promotions and the false impression that they represent Punjab’s farmers!! 🙏🏻

This is not Iowa or Nebraska, this is Bring Back Our Youths to Agriculture (BBYA) maize farm in Iyemero. I'm dedicating this week to showcasing the works of these committed Youths. Area Index Yield Based insurance cover is in place for the plantations in case of any unforeseen circumstances. This is being undertaken by PULA Advisor and Leadway Insurance. Ekiti is one of the first states to do this for free for the farmers. This is in partnership with the private sector (YSJ). Other private sector-driven agribusinesses in the state are also doing very well. Prospective processors are lining up to offtake the corn and add value. Ekiti State Government is about job creation through productivity.
