How is this process called in your own language? Thisbis the last process to storing maize. The chaff is removed. Since the chaff are lighter, they are blown away by winds leaving good maize. This is always done when there is strong winds blowing. #WindPower #maize #harvest23 #harvest #postharvest...

🇬🇭 A maize farmer in Atebubu has appealed to President Mahama to support local farmers, citing low patronage of their maize. He claimed that government funds allocated for buffer stock purchases are not being used to buy their maize, while much of the maize consumed in the country is imported. He added that even during the economic challenges under the Akuffo-Addo era, farmers did not face such low patronage, urging the president to step in and help boost local maize consumption.

SOUTH AFRICA HAS THE SECOND LARGEST MAIZE HARVEST ON RECORD — South Africa’s 2024-25 maize crop of 16.44 million tonnes is the second-largest on record. This is up 28% from the previous season, boosted by the better yields. — Importantly, the 16.44 million tonnes harvest is well above South Africa’s annual maize needs of approximately 12.00 million tonnes, indicating a surplus and continued net maize exports. —There will be ample export volumes.

Maize Harvest Hits New Record Kenya is set to harvest a record 70 million bags of maize in 2025, up from 67 million last year, and more than double the 34.3 million bags recorded in 2022. This according to agriculture cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe, who also says the expected bumper harvest is a result of government’s fertiliser subsidy programme. #NTVAtOne Wangechi Muriuki

Allagadda - Ahobilam Road, Nandyala district of AP. Continuous rain over the past week has washed away the maize. When I was there last week, farmers along the 25 km stretch from Allagadda to Ahobilam were drying their harvested maize on the road. I don’t think the crop is usable or sellable anymore. #CycloneMontha

GOVERNMENT MEASURES TO MITIGATE POST HARVEST LOSSES 1. The government last month commissioned the first batch of the 100-grain dryers to assist farmers in mitigating post-harvest losses in 15 maize-growing counties. 2. This is the first phase of the government plan to support the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), and farmers with 200-grain dryers to curb post-harvest losses occasioned by poor storage, inadequate drying facilities, and poor weather conditions. 3. Each dryer has the capacity to dry 14 tons of maize in two hours.

Still In Yendi, I made a stop at a processing facility which is almost completed. When finished, it will process tons of maize and soya into finished products for local and foreign consumption. The factory will start buying excess maize and soya from farmers around very soon. #agric #Ghana

Farmer Tobias Muungani once focused only on seed maize. Then he became part of this innovative outgrower scheme, backed by Chegutu’s Sable Citrus and Dodhill. To grow the industry, we need more growers. This venture is a great example of how this is being done!

FOR THE FIRST TIME PUNJAB FARMERS ARE SUPPORTING MODI GOVT- “Punjab farmers support ethanol policy, say maize and sugarcane cultivators benefiting; urge political parties against rollback. We appeal them to improvise the system instead of rollback. Farmers commit suicide across the country and this is helping farmers in distress. In Israel also ethanol is used. We urge opposition parties to discuss this matter with us instead of opposing it.”

Do you even know the reality of Punjab’s agriculture? Being a farmer let me tell you! Only around 3% of Punjab’s cropped area is under sugarcane and maize, while nearly 85% is dominated by wheat and paddy. With just around 3% of Punjab’s cropped area under sugarcane and maize, and virtually no farm machinery running on petrol, how exactly does a Punjab farmer benefit from ethanol-blended petrol? Yet a handful of people are being projected as if they represent every farmer in Punjab. These are the same vested interests that damaged the credibility of the farmers’ movement earlier, and now they’re again trying to speak for all Punjab farmers. With elections approaching, it’s hard not to question who benefits from this narrative. Want farmers to shift to maize or sugarcane? Then who will pay for the additional investment? A farmer would need to spend roughly ₹3–10 lakh on a maize harvester and another ₹7–10 lakh on specialised sugarcane trolly equipment. That’s an additional investment of ₹10–15 lakh only just on equipment only to wait an entire year for a sugarcane crop and see ruining the cars? On top of that, a large share of Punjab’s agricultural land simply isn’t well suited for sugarcane cultivation. Please stop these misleading promotions and the false impression that they represent Punjab’s farmers!! 🙏🏻

Record heatwaves and chronic water shortages are shrinking maize harvests, forcing some farmers to abandon the crop and reshaping a region long seen as a pillar of European grain production. The impact is most evident in Hungary and Romania.
