@Josepha7c @seesb9 Dude, most firebenders we see use shoes/boots, and they still firebend with their feet. They are bending through their clothes without burning them. They absolutely can firebend through other objects. The swords are like an extension of his arms.

Bending comes from martial arts, some of them incorporate weapons to them. That is why Aang can airbend with fans and his staff. Zuko can use swords, and this guy uses hammers. When the weapon becomes an extension of the body, they can include it into the movement.
