Not true about the spleen by a long shot and fuck I pray my daughter never sees a post like this. Many kids with spherocytosis have their spleens removed at an early age and live long healthy lives.

This is so inaccurate itโ€™s hilarious. With dialysis, average lifespan without kidney function is ~10 years. If we assume this is without medical intervention, you wouldnโ€™t live a week before hyperkalemia killed you. Also, ppl can live without an anus for a lifetime with an ostomy

What would you be doing for those 6 minutes without a brain?

I was born without a kidney and no spleen and still going strong at 65.

Those figures are not fully accurate based on medical sources. Yes, some of the longer survival estimates in the video (like for kidneys or lungs) are indeed due to those being paired organsโ€”your body has built-in redundancy, so you can often function normally with just one, assuming no other complications. E.g. regarding the spleen specifically: With proper medical management (like vaccinations, antibiotics, and infection prevention), people can live a full, normal lifespan after splenectomy.

Thyroid was removed as a child ( 5). Now in my 60s. Utter nonsense.

I underwent a splenectomy in 2004. On 23 December, it will be exactly 21 years since the procedure. Yes, I do experience pneumonia more frequently. However, I make a conscious effort to avoid contact with sick toddlers, as they can be particularly contagious to individuals without a spleen. The study suggesting that splenectomized individuals can only live for 8 years is inaccurate.

Technically, they're all lifetimes, but the times of some of those are wrong

Technically you can live without any organ for a lifetime. How short that lifetime is, is dependent on the missing organ.

This is Stan Larkin. He spent 555 days with no heart in his body. He wore a backpack 24/7 that pumps blood through his body to keep him alive while waiting for a heart transplant.

Rubbish. There are thousands of people who live a full lifespan with no functioning brain at all. They tend to congregate in squares in cities, calling for criminals' rights to have priority over everyone else's. They are also overrepresented in governments and local councils.

Relative had spleen removed and lived almost 30 years after, those numbers are wayyyy off. Same for the thyroid, know 2 persons with it removed doing fine for years already. Would be nice not having these missleading numbers around
