😂😂I remember. Even worked at some of them. Consumers Distributing >Amazon

Agreed!

haha....reminded me of an old joke...What do call a wooden vibrator??? Beaver Lumber

🤣

Almost all of them. Let’s do some more.

Another one for the history books.

Most, I would add Eatons, Hudson Bay, LeBarons, Radio Shack, Army & Navy, Woolworths, in Western Canada. Holy shit I am getting old.

Consumers Distributing .. waaay ahead of there time and they didn’t even know it !

I can still smell white rose and I never once entered the store

Most definitely. That smell is burned into my memory.

They must have washed the floors with their tea or something.

Nothing better than a grilled cheese sandwich, fries, and a fountain Coke at the diner in the Woolco (or Woolworth’s).

Bi-Way is where my mom would buy me ugly discount jeans for my friends to make fun of.

The fact that these shops from the 80’s are now vaunted as a better time is an incredible commentary on the current thing(s) It sure was a lot safer and cleaner

As a kid, I remember doing our groceries here (these were mostly in Quebec but a few also in Ontario). Went bankrupt in 1992.

Straight to the toy department

Always

I use to work at Hy & Zel’s! Too funny.

Awesome

You make an interesting point. I am 54 & remember all of these. However i wouldn’t have been able to name them all without your vid. We live in a very different world from the one I remember as a kid.

This is when Canada was a real country & had stores. They missed Marks & Spencer's Pier One & many good stores. They even missed the Bay or did I miss it? There's nothing in Canada anymore except cheap merchandise as if we're a country that buys leftovers. So sad really!

Great post! Sadly I remember every single one, my work bought an old Beaver lumber property that was next door to us. We actually still call it the beaver building to this day.

I miss White Rose the most. I've got so many fond memories of going downtown to Simpsons and Eatons to see their beautifully animated Christmas 🎄 window displays and then going up to the toy floor to see all the other displays and, of course, Santa 🎅🏼. No more department stores remain in Canada 🍁, which is sad 😞.

I can remember quite a few of those places, especially Consumers Distrituting which is where I bought my CD carousel and the "Dominion" grocery chain. It was there in 1968, my late mom spent ninety dollars on groceries. She then whispered to me "don't tell your dad about this."

I was waiting for Beaver Lumber. Did not disappoint.

I remember those

Consumers distributing will come back, it's the only model that will keep apes from stealing!

Oh I loved White Rose I got my new Mama rocking chair from there Weber street Kitchener

I worked at Woolco!

Big V for the win!

I got my first ever RC car from consumers distributing in the '80s.

Wow. All mostly gone. I’ll add Peevy Mart too

Wow, Ryan. That is actually quite unsettling, we have lost a great deal. Those places were very different. Sam the record man should be there as well.

Those were the days !

You forgot Woodwards, Woolco, Kresge's, Army & Navy, Future Shop, Woolworth, Sears.

Every single one of them 🥹💖

All of them. The good ol' days.

Consumers Distributing should come back. No one could steal and the prices were cheaper because of the lower costs of overhead.
