No such problems on my E46 M3. It's a ten minute job. The induction noise ranks up there as one of my favorite things about this car.

I did that shit on my Mini Countryman once. Supremely annoyed. Then the blower motor gave out and you had to take out the entire steering column to replace it. I sold it instead.

I guarantee the car below will be on the road longer than that boondoggle even though it is already 60 years older.

This is part of the reason they lost WWII. Every vehicle had highly technical solutions. They always engineered for performance. Ignoring ease of maintenance and reduced complexity. Etc. Etc. Fall in to that rabbit hole on you tube for a good time.

In World War II, German vehicles were engineered so incredibly well that maintenance was difficult and soldiers were frequently unable to repair them, leading to abandonment of equipment on the battlefield.

10 minutes doing the actual job you wanted to do, three hours trying to get to it so you can do the work and finding the special tools to release some absurd bolt put on something for only an engineer knows why.

When you get your car serviced tell the garage to write the date and mileage on the air filter. Next year ask to see the old filter.
