This is my video, and between the local shop doing the rebuild and my labour to re-barrel, the customer was out the door for under 5k CAD.

dude I just found you on IG and I’m OBSESSED I spent 4 hours last night watching your stuff A god among mere mortals

20 shop hours @$150 plus (materials x 1.2). About $3500.

I love watching these guys do their thing. I say $750 for parts and labor

Gotta be way more The replacement part is $10k Bet he could charge $5

He would go to another machinist for $5k. Idk I follow another guy on YouTube that does this stuff and his prices aren't usually half of a replacement. And what he did here wasn't overly complicated. I'll bring my estimate up to $1500 but I don't think he could charge $5k for what he did

Tbh I have no idea, your probably right Also guessing it depends on how fast he needs it and how many machinists are in town

I would have been in the 4K range.

Most machinists I know aren’t near as pleasant as this dude 🙂

Cutting Edge Engineering has a youtube channel. It's an Australian machine shop guy (his wife does the camera work) they do all kinds of work like this, but also REALLY BIG equipment pieces too.

The swing cylinder in our young Cat backhoe was bad and Cat wanted 15k for the repairs. I had worked well with the site contractor on the job at the time and they did it for $3500. Everybody was happy but Cat.

I assume CAT has field sales reps and this is a revenue center for them, ya?

This was a long time ago but they had done all of our maintenance up until then. They also had territory rules that I could not use Franks Cat instead of Larrys Cat, But I could rent the same machine from Frank for 1/3 the payment if I bought from Larry.

$3,500 - $5,000 is my guess

Used to be hydraulic shops that could hone out the barrel and apply the proper o rings

How much money they lose per day with the machine down X how many days a new replacement part would take to be delivered - $1000 = cost to repair the hydraulic ram

I don’t know but you have to check out cutting edge engineering in Australia on YouTube. He does this all the time.

About a tenth of what John Deere would have charged.

1500.00

I don't know how I ended up on machinest Twitter but it's rad as fuck.

You'll love this too then.

Not sure, but I know that I will never buy another John Deere. Their parts prices are so delusional that it's sickening. The greed. They wanted almost $2,000 for a loader cylinder for my 790 which is a compact utility tractor. Other brands are like $300-$500 for a cylinder.

$3k plus

Machinists are invaluable, no matter what he charged he created another area for himself to produce income.

Machinist here... Alot

$2500-$5000

Not a lot ,only took 3mins to make ffs

$3000

At 10k he had a whole lotta wiggle room to play with.

Probably like $60 plus a case of beer

$4750

$1800 maybe?

such a nice jeweller's lathe 🙂

$859.72

At least 50% of new....if new is available. Based on what I can see, 5-10K for custom machining!!!

Made in china would have worked.

Cost would depend upon what you can charge, not actual time & materials. Real cost would be materials, and likely 4-5 hours of machining/tapping/welding, painting and an hour for honing. New seals/etc $300-400. Actual cost might be $1200-1500, but when new is $10K?

$1.99 ?

Not enough.

all depends on the shop rate , while i was working in a machine shop decades ago. the rate then was $118 dollars an hour + parts .

Nice fucking job❤️👍🏻
