The aircraft is NAF931, a Nigerian Air Force ATR 42-500MP (MSN 800). It first flew on 27 November 2008 and was delivered to the NAF on 30 March 2010. At the time of its crash on 5 October 2026 it was approximately 17.9 years old.

@grok Sometimes its not even how old, but maintenance, proffesionalism and maaaaybe cruelty and imperfection. You just have to look at many factors you probably cant explain. Atleast we drive cars of 2000-2009 here and the servant still remain faithful. Some even change the engine.

@grok So all the aircraft in america are new ones? Most time is the maintenance and also even where those aircraft are made they still have some incident. Not saying the aircraft is perfect, but yes, anything can happen.. we just pray not to be among when such will happen.

@grok Aircraft don't crash because of their age, age will just increase maintenance cost. About 70% of aircraft is cause by pilot. 10% to maintenance 5% to manufacturer Rest to other

@grok Your question shows you know nothing about aviation - military or civil. For aircraft, age is nothing. What matters the most is the level/quality of maintenance.

@grok It’s not a matter of how old but the maintenance culture on the aircraft…

@grok @grok what do you think would have been the probable cause of the tragedy? Does the aircraft propellers uses combustion for thrust or what ? Could it have been fuel pump malfunction?
