We have those little libraries all over town for the kids. Our Fire Dept maintains and stocks the books for them. We also have one at our lakefront stocked with toys for kids to borrow while at the lakefront area.

We have these here in my Appalachian part of Virginia. We also have food stands where you just take what you want and leave your payment in a little box. Honor system.

@DrunkRepub I ran a little free library in my cul-de-sac for years. We had a wooden swing next to it and you would see little kids come on summer mornings with their grandparents and read books together. When we moved, a neighbor family with small children took over the caretaking.

Its the way that we used to live. It's the way that some places still live. Respect for self, respect for others. It's all that you need, yet so hard to achieve today. Mostly due to the lack of respect.

It should be, and historically was, but unfortunately this is far from normal. It’s becoming less and less normal as our high trust society is replaced with low trust minded immigrants. We must be wise in who we invite to our shores. Not all cultures are equal.

I have one of those in my backyard next to the golf cart path - yes, our town is connected by more than 100 miles of cart paths. Mine is one of 3 little libraries in our neighborhood. There are at least 6 more within a 2-mile radius.

They are pretty common in mostly-White neighborhoods. Little "book-borrowers" or "can swaps" (for canned goods)....we also have "honor markets" where fresh fruits/vegs/flowers are left out in the open with a money box. You deposit the money for what you take....nobody is there. Lets be honest, in black neighborhoods, they'd burn/steal the books, take all the cans, tear down the little stand, steal the money box & eat all the berries.

I get a little tearful when I see your gratitude and awe for just general security and the restoration of a high trust society. The pockets of this level of life get smaller every year in this country though. Most people have no idea what they are losing.

thanks for giving us an outsiders perspective of our country. it makes me realize that maybe we arent actively on fire all the time....we are actually very lucky in a lot of ways and should work together to keep moving this place forward.

A friend of mine made one of these lending libraries in San Francisco. Yes, San Francisco. It was there for several years before some bozo tore it down. He was upset, but he just build another one & it's been here for a few years now with no problems.

It’s only DC friend. Dont come to WA state full of inbred stealing our tax money, blue haired and animal low IQs and run by the most retarded “leadership” making us all unsafe and broke. Mass exodus of anyone with $ and jobs. 🇺🇸

We have free books and they are generally never abused, since the demographic that steals, is usually the demographic that can't read.
