Although it's possibly a fisheye lens, the background horizon line is off, making the cliff look steeper than it actually is.

I think a better question is WHY do people do this? Lenny Bruce had an amazing bit about Goyish things that Goys do. Now, I am quite the Goy, but I truly believe that your worldview is misaligned if you need this level of artificial risk. If your beliefs don't include significant enough risk to make this unnecessary, you need to reassess.
