In the 1890s, cameras underwent significant technological advancements that revolutionized photography. During this period, the most popular type of camera was the box camera, characterized by its simple design and ease of use. These cameras typically utilized glass plates coated with light-sensitive emulsions for capturing images. However, the introduction of roll film by George Eastman's Kodak company in the 1880s paved the way for more accessible and convenient photography. This innovation allowed photographers to take multiple shots without the need to handle fragile glass plates. Additionally, advancements in lens design and shutter mechanisms improved the quality and speed of image capture. The 1890s marked a critical juncture in the evolution of photography, setting the stage for further innovations in the years to come.

Tintype photography

Cameras capture images at a certain number of frames per second. If an object completes one full rotation between frames, it will seem like it barely moved when played back at a regular speed.

I enjoy seeing how analog technology was used to accomplish a lot in the field of communication. What may seem rudimentary to us now, in its day, must've seemed like the pinnacle in tech. That fills me with a great sense of wonder of how technologies that seem so advanced to us today will, in a few decades time, be eclipsed entirely by something much more efficient and impressive.

In 1937, photographs were transmitted over wires using a process called wirephoto or telephotography, which was a precursor to modern fax machines. The photo was scanned and converted into electrical signals that were sent via telephone lines or radio waves to a receiving machine, which reconstructed the image on special photographic paper. This technology revolutionized news media by allowing for rapid sharing of images across long distances.

Speaking about photography: One of the first ever recorded photographs of a person. It was taken on a street in Paris, the Boulevard du Temple. 1838. It took 12 minutes to take the photo and during that time a person had to remain still for over 10 minutes to be captured. Because of this, most of the carriages and pedestrians disappeared from the scene except the man on the bottom left who was getting his shoes shined.

In the 1840s, inventor Alexander Bain conducted the first successful photo transmission experiment. Bain, who invented the fax machine, sent a still image via wires.

The photo "The Last Goodbye" captures the last moments with the conservation officer before passing away of old age of a male white rhino named Sudan. Sudan is the last male rhino of the northern white rhino species that is in danger of extinction, currently there are only 2 left alive and both are female. Conservationists are making every effort to save this species.
