that's like... the legally accurate term, but is not used by any german in day to day speech to refer to "shop". simplified we'd use "Laden" I'd say.

That's incorrect. Shop in German is "Geschäft" or "Laden".

It's German specificity. It's called the stand-alone trade store. But they also use the shortened geschäft, meaning "shop"

exaggeration of course. "Geschäft" would be sufficient to translate "shop". "Einzelhandel" is "retail". so he translates shop with "retail shop"

Yea yea, funny. But there are many words for "shop" in german, they picked the most difficult one. NOBBODY uses Einzelhandelschgeschäft in every day life. You would almost always say Laden, Supermarkt or simply Geschäft.
