Compassion story: Today I went to Dunkin’ Donuts and saw a clearly homeless guy sitting on the side of the road and picking up change. Eventually I saw him stroll into Dunkin, as he was counting his change to buy something I began to get super annoying and talked to him over and over again even when he didn’t really want to talk. Since he had maybe $1 in change I bought him a coffee and bagel and asked him to sit down with me. He told me a lot about how people are usually very mean to him because he’s homeless, how drugs turned him into the person he hated, he lost his mom to cancer, he never knew his dad and he just wants to be someone his mom would be proud of (along with another hours worth of conversation.) This lovely mans name was Chris and Chris was one of the most honest & sincere people I’ve ever met. After realizing I really need to get back to class Chris asked me to wait so he can write something down for me. Handing me a crumpled up receipt he apologized for having shaky hand writing, smiled, and left. I opened his note and this was it. ‘I wanted to kill myself today, because of u I now do not. Thank u, beautiful person.’ “

The Battle of Castle Itter: When the Allies and Germans Fought Together In the final days of World War II, on May 5, 1945, an extraordinary event unfolded in the Austrian village of Itter - the Battle of Castle Itter. This battle showcased an unusual alliance between German and American forces against a common enemy. The picturesque Castle Itter, located in the Austrian North Tyrol, was a place of historical significance. Within its walls were incarcerated prominent French prisoners, including ex-prime ministers, generals, and other high-ranking individuals. As the war neared its end in Europe, this castle became a focal point of a gripping and unlikely battle. Major Josef "Sepp" Gangl, a German Wehrmacht officer, commanded the nearby garrison. Instead of adhering to orders from the retreating German forces, Gangl chose to protect the prisoners from an impending attack by the 17th Waffen-SS Panzer Grenadier Division. The defenders of the castle included the German soldiers led by Major Gangl, an American tank crew commanded by Lieutenant John Lee, a handful of Austrian resistance fighters, and the French prisoners. They found themselves standing united against the might of the Waffen-SS. When the SS launched their assault, the defenders fought valiantly, engaging in intense and close-quarters combat. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, they managed to hold their ground until relief arrived. A U.S. Army task force, led by Captain Jack Lee, reached the castle on May 6, 1945, liberating the defenders and prisoners. The Battle of Castle Itter remains a remarkable and unconventional chapter in World War II history, illustrating the unpredictable alliances and unique circumstances that can emerge even in the midst of a devastating global conflict.

As I grow older I find myself in somewhat of an agreement with these old people. I always prey to god that I retain my sanity as I grow old and never adapt this extreme old mindset
