As soon as I saw that, I couldn't resist, that's what the game reminded me of, and I just had to say it.

Same way this was a Genesis title. Good artists, expert programmers, and people unafraid of pushing the limits.

That game is little annoying to play 😅

@TheModelGamerYT That is also a little annoying but the stages map not always easy to see where to go .. and the combat hit feeling is less solid than Super Nintendo version

Having trouble telling if some of this is emulation or not. Some videos have lower resolution on the polys and some don't. Some also have way worse frame rates. But it looks great because they took Crash Bandicoots concept and heavily relied on 2d sprites (which playstation was really good at) You can see other examples on sidescrolling levels. They used textures to their extreme to make things look better. Notice heavy use of 2d sprites for set pieces next to unique 3d textures for most faces with light baked in.

This was 1 of the best looking PS1 games tbh and then you have the Star Wars Phantom Menace game which looked terrible 🤣🤣🤣

Some of it was ok but some of the controls and certain areas were nightmare considering at the time I always remember this getting a lot of hate for the graphics there was a lot of stuff were people would laugh and say they spent to much time making the Queens ship look pretty 😂

pretty trivial for the system, its just a combination of 3d and sprite scaling. Its the polar opposite of resident evil. The main sprites are 2D while the environment is 3D. See also: Mickey Mania across all the platforms it was released on.

Oh, its great. riding the very end of that wave of good Disney games that started with Duck Tales, though Aladdin and Mickey right up until about this.

But technically - very achiveable on the system.

the lack of z-buffer gives it away that it's a ps1 game but it is impressive.

Z-buffer?

It's why PS1 sometimes had those noticeable wobbling graphics with elaborate polygons. Because there was no z-buffer. It wasn't as noticeable on old CRT displays with RF modulators though. Modern PS1 emus even have a feature to add z-buffer back so the polygons look smoother.

Being a stupid and edgy teen, I overlooked this game back in the late 90s. This was a good platformer for a Disney-licensed game.

Can't say. There is also Toy Story 2, which my sibling played much more than Hercules. Given a choice, I'd pick Hercules just for mixing animated and 3D graphics. Still need to play both just so I can say this is the best Disney-licensed game on PSX.

Hercules was a mad game, i only ever played the demo back in the day, but loved the animated movie as a kid

I've been saying we need a 3D Disney Collection with the Hercules and Tarzan games (Tarzan is also heavily slept on) revamped a bit and made available for modern consoles.

I liked collecting all the Hercu-lads

parallax sprites were 'cheap' on CPU & GPU. also the constant 'bending' of the road means that it only needed to load a small portion of the map... that being said it's still super impressive for the era!

Simple geometry, 2d characters... It looks good but it's not as technically impressive as Spyro. Also this is probably captured on an emulator. How is Sonic R a Saturn game?

Look up mizzurna falls ps1 gameplay if you haven’t seen it. Way ahead of its time and good graphics like this on ps1.

What's the problem? This game wouldn't run on the SNES if you thought it was poorly made. It's an early PS1 game, and it takes a while for developers to learn how to develop. Especially back then. So tweet less and play more games because you're not ready to debate about games.
