How the hell is he doing this?

He cut the shadow, which caused the flower to also be cut.

Seriously? There are wires going up into the vase and into the flowers that are holding the pieces together and someone remotely pulls the corresponding wires to loosen those pieces of the plant when he has his knife in the right position in the shadow.

As he walks from left to right the shadow of the vase does not project onto his clothing. It’s a great looking trick but nothing more than expensive toy with no craft at work.

Some people just walk through life casually bending reality while the rest of us try to understand gravity.
So the flower is held together with a melting compound of some kind. Once the bright light is turned on, it begins melting/reacting. Each part has a different amount, and through much practice he's worked out when to make each cut to align with the rate it melts.

the paper and him have nothing to do with any of it. its a prop flower that is rigged to do that, and he's just matching the timing. its simple.

same way he did this

electro magnets, the stem may have wires, some one off screen is disabling the magnet as he touches the shadows.

Shadow jutsu, the only explanation

The vase has a mechanism; he just acts it.

I see. The vase in front has been manipulated to lose its petals. The knife does nothing but follow the shadow. So the only hard trick is to construct the vase. Then it's just simple timing. 🥸

Carefully time glue and heat would be my first guess.

Must be an electronic flower or something

Great magician. Got Jillette's autograph at a computer show. He was speaking on something in 1989 or something. Both of them are just great.

It's choreographed technology. Not a real flower.

My brain feels scrambled and amazed! Wtf. Legendary magician.

synchronisation! loose glued flower and leaves, he is not doing anything to the shadow just watching & acting accordingly.

Teller proving that if your shadow gets chopped, your job is next.

Electromagnets built into the flower toggled by a remote switch, an operator watching and toggling the flower to fall apart by cutting voltage/killing magnetic force.

Wax holding the parts of the plant together. An ultra violet laser used to melt the wax.

He pretends. Isn't it better not to ask?

It’s a 4 dimensional object and it appears 2 dimensional and casts a 3d shadow.

If you knew the answer, you'd be disappointed, but maybe still impressed by the technology and how much it cost to build this prop.

Incroyable

He has a tiny thread running from his other hand

He grew the flower from a cutting, one of millions of clones. Each clone is grown to the size of a bush. Each bush is trained to respond on que. The ones who perform like this are incorporated into the act. The process takes years and reduces them to this size by show time.

I saw this in person many years ago. I love them.

the shadow of the vase and flower does not show on his body when he walks in between the vase and white board. blooper!

Pretty simple. Just use the core as guide for some retractable wires. Cut, stick back on, retract, voila.

Is this an AI or just science?

laser.

Different lighting zone, that's it

Great trick.

Geniale!

indeed
