Now that's a vrchat moment What a weird error, maybe some component in the avatar doesn't play well with the impostor system. That really sucks :(

If I recall correctly it was discussed in a dev update that this may become automated later on, but for now all we can do is spread the word about it. It's just one click

Imposters are genuinely such a great system considering, getting able to see the avatar even if it isn’t the best looking, you still get a look at the same avatar the person is using

Impostors actually look pretty good in my opinion They look like something that would have been in a PS1 game I sometimes wish there was an option to use the impostors instead of the actual avatar
