How to make a fast gliding paper airplane

Just made it for our kids. Plunged directly downwards.

This is not a good design. The weight to wing area means you have to throw it too hard to go anywhere. If all you want is distance, the best paper airplane design is to compress it into a tiny ball and shoot it with a sling shot ... like a BB. Get it ?? ------///------ Paper airplane design (for a given piece of paper) is about getting the greatest distance from aerodynamic lift and ... 👉🏼 LEAST VELOCITY 👈🏼 Least velocity showcases your understanding of aerodynamics, i.e. your knowledge and expertise in design implementation. A true paper airplane competition would be to simply drop your design straight toward the ground and watch the aerodynamic forces ... right the plane to near horizontal ... then showcase the glide ratio by length of flight after drop. Only "drop gliders" are meaningful paper airplanes. Think about it ... if you throw a paper airplane as hard as you can ... all that matters is what happens -AFTER- drag has exhausted the initial throw force and gravity continues to supply the motive force for a constant glide ratio from -ANY- height. A good drop height for small papers (5x7 inch scratch paper) would be ~10 feet in still air (as in a warehouse). A winning design from my experience, would need about 50 feet of running room. A higher drop might be needed for relatively faster models (heavier or larger paper stock). There could be weight categories for competitions. Note also that a glider that follows a trajectory of up & down dips from velocity changes ... is a failed design. Depending on the paper size & weight ... it may end up looking similar to this.

That is an interesting variation on the paper airplanes we used to make when I was a kid

Looks like it will be really nose heavy and dive instead of glide. You would most likely have to add some weight to the back .

I make one that actually fly's and glides for ages. Secret fold though. Never mind.
