Here is the link to Coder's GitHub repository: You can use Coder with Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, or any other agentic coding app. You can configure any available models, including open models. Thanks to the Coder team for partnering with me on this post.

The 'server in the basement' line is the best part - owning the box your agents run on beats renting it back from a cloud. Nice release!

Does each workspace get its own git worktree, or can two agents still collide on the same file?

Running several agents on one project is where it gets real. What fixed it for me: every agent gets its own lane, and they all append to one shared log. Most of the chaos is two agents editing the same file at once.

This is the real split now. Code is cheap. A shared picture of the system is not. Generating the diagram from the repo is the easy part. The valuable part is editing it, then handing that same artifact to people and agents so both are working from one map. If the diagram is only a screenshot of last week’s code, it becomes another stale wiki. If it stays in the loop, it starts to replace the spec.

Local sandboxes fix the cloud bill, not the architecture. Running multiple agents on one repo creates merge hell unless they share persistent memory 🍏. Why isolate containers if the agents have no idea what the other just broke?

does each agent get its own workspace from the template, or do they share one?
