Some more interesting facts about parking problems in 1927 are: The first parking meter was not invented until 1935 by Carl C. Magee, a newspaper editor from Oklahoma City. He designed a coin-operated device that could be attached to a post and would record the time a car was parked. The first parking meter was installed in Oklahoma City on July 16, 1935. In 1927, the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT) in New York City operated several parking lots near subway stations, where drivers could park their cars for a fee and take the train to their destinations. The parking lots provided gas and oil services, as well as attendants who would wash and polish the cars while they were parked. This was an early example of a park-and-ride system that aimed to reduce traffic congestion and pollution in the city.
