@WonderOfHow They aren't doing it to hide the bricks, that's external wall insulation and that wall looks like it was previously rendered anyway. Hope it's not a solid wall though and has an air gap......

@WonderOfHow I would have installed a wooden frame between the brick and the insulation layer. It would at least allow the air to move and let possible moisture to escape.
