This isn't "zipper merging". This is the left turn lane of the intersection. If everyone tried "zipper merging" the intersection would get gridlocked. This is just called being an asshole

People lining up all the way back in anticipation of a one lane road are only causing MORE traffic by de facto extending the length of the one lane closure. The open lane should be used as long as possible. Basic traffic physics.

Traffic would move a lot faster if people used both lanes and merged at the point of closure, one after the other. We all drive in competitive game theory mode not cooperative 😔

You did it wrong, merged too early. “Zipper merging” is done where the lane ends. The idea is that instead of one giant line you get two, and you merge like a zipper when at the end of the beginning of the closer.

Whenever people do this, most drivers get infuriated. I just let a car or two in. I don't see why people road rage, it costs you like 5 seconds, lol.

This is bad person energy. Not a zipper merge because The lane wasn’t ending, and the lanes weren’t merging, that was traffic at an exit that you skipped the line

Agree re zipper merge, but I travel this road daily for work and this isn’t an example of it. All the cars/tracks lined up aren’t merging, instead further down the road a turning lane is created. Adding to the traffic is people illegally turning left from the middle lane.

These assholes dont care that their a major reason why these pile ups happen in the first place

100% of the time I pull into that clear lane and drive the speed of the stopped lane to stop assholes like the one pictured. Anyway the study that stated zipper merge was the most efficient also stated that that was true only mathematically, humans are not capable of doing it.
