Ahead in what sense? They are yet to roll this car on the street after getting regulatory clearances while Waymo has been operating in 3 cities and expanding into many. Tesla does have a lot of data, so it could surge ahead, but not right now.

Waymo uses Lidar which is not only super expensive but also hard to scale.

You’re literally falling into the trap that they do. They’re announce a product that is far from production just so people like yourself can say that they’re far ahead. I’m not saying that this isn’t going to happen - but they do these events just so they can be perceived as being ahead even when the product isn’t ready.
