I think the narrative on AI is very much that occurred when television went to color and everybody said it would wipe out radio. It didn't happen. It's a tool. It's a tool for productivity and margin enhancement. It's just starting to get utilized in all 11 sectors of the economy. My companies use it. But it's nowhere near the disruptor that people think. I'm more concerned about Chinese on AI because they have unlimited power. They are not restricted to set up coal-burning electrical plants. We can't do that. AI right now, for me, is a competition on defense and the military in China. I worry that we're falling behind the Chinese on power on our grid, and we haven't addressed it yet. We do not have policy that lets us build out at the same pace they are.

That’s why, if you look at their holdings of US Treasuries, they’ve actually gone down a bit over the years. If you look at all the new Treasuries we’ve issued over the years, the fact that the Chinese haven’t bought any of them is a big deal because they used to be a main buyer of these assets. Instead of buying more Treasuries, they’ve bought more gold. So if you look at US dollar debt as a percentage of all the reserves the Chinese own, Treasuries are a much smaller percentage of their total reserves than they once were, especially if you consider the appreciation of gold. I would guess the reason they’re not moving more dramatically is because they probably don’t want to cause a crash, the dollar to implode, the Treasury market to implode, because they are trying to sell and want to get a decent price. So I think they’re happy to slowly bleed it off to try to get that good price. They just have to worry about the impact on the dollar, because if they try to dump too many dollars at once, the dollar could go down, and especially if a lot of other countries see that and want to get out. There could be a run on the dollar. If all the holders decide they want to get out, they don’t want to be the last one holding the dollar, and so it becomes a rush, and we could be in a US dollar crisis relatively soon anyway… I think we’re heading for a real crisis in the US, and I think countries that are smart would be trying to get ahead of that by selling whatever they can, as quietly as they can, out of US dollars and any US dollar-denominated debt.’ -Peter Schiff on Going Underground

This guy just explained the difference between a liberal and a conservative better than anybody in Washington ever has. "White liberals, they try to fight for us. And the second you step off their script? "Now they feel like they gotta fight for us even more to try to get us back on the Democratic plantation." Then he flips it. They see us as Americans." I've been saying it for years: be very careful with anyone who tells you they "fight for you." Most of the time they want your vote, your donation, and your obedience. This guy just explained the difference between a liberal and a conservative better than anybody in Washington ever has. "White liberals, they try to fight for us. Meaning, they try to think that we're inferior and they think they're superior. They think we're brainless idiots. They think we're stupid. Like we don't know how to think for ourselves." And the second you step off their script? "Now they feel like they gotta fight for us even more to try to get us back on the Democratic plantation." Then he flips it. A conservative, "or a patriot, whatever you wanna call them," is "not gonna fight for us. But they will fight beside us." Why? "They see us as a neighbor. They see us as a human being. They see us as Americans." I've been saying it for years: be very careful with anyone who tells you they "fight for you." Most of the time they want your vote, your donation, and your obedience. The people worth trusting stand next to you and respect that you can think for yourself. Who's "fighting for you" right now who really just wants to own you?

The Chinese need a very high probability of success to commit themselves past a certain point, because failure would be catastrophic for whoever launched it. I think they're trying to get themselves into a position where they could have a soft blockade. They could give the orders that any ship that wants to go to Taiwan first has to stop at a Chinese port and go through a customs clearing process to assert sovereignty. They'll be looking for things that fly just under the radar, that don't actually cause us to really respond, but which alter the situation in their favor. One of the things that keeps Xi Jinping awake at night is his awareness that in any kind of conflict with the United States, China would face being cut off from so many of the raw materials and markets that economy needs. No oil is coming in or out. No manufactured goods are being sold. The soybean contracts they have with farmers in Brazil and Argentina, not getting delivered. We've all been surprised with the Iran war to see just how big the Chinese oil stockpiles have become. A lot of Chinese energy policy can be understood as trying to avoid the trap of dependence on the global economy. They're doing the solar, they're doing as much hydro as they can, and they're also digging as much coal as they possibly can, because what they're trying to do is make themselves less dependent on the outside world, so in a worst case scenario with the US, they can actually fight for the long term."
