Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had in January 2025 approved the establishment of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) to revise the salaries and benefits of Central Government employees and pensioners. All Central Government pensioners who had retired before 1.1.2016 are receiving pension at par with employees who retired after 1.1.2016. Keeping in view the recommendations which were made by the 6th CPC, a distinction among pensioners is inevitable and that is what is being brought in as an amendment and by way of validation. The validation rules DO NOT, in any way, change or alter the existing pensions so fixed of existing Civil Pensioners from the present stage. The validation rules also DO NOT affect Defense Pensioners in any way as they are covered by separate rules. It is not an amendment to any pension Rules or instructions but only a reaffirmation of the same w.e.f. 1st June, 1972, i.e. the date the CCS (Pension) Rules were promulgated. The 6th Central Pay Commission made a distinction between the retirees of pre-1.1.2006 and those of post-1.1.2006 periods. The then-Government (Congress-led UPA) had accepted the recommendations of 6th Central Pay Commission and decided that there will be a distinction between pensioners with reference to the cut-off date of 1.1.2006. The 7th Central Pay Commission has brought in parity between pre 1.1.2016 and post 1.1.2016 Pensioners. I again reiterate that this is only a Validation of existing rules. Minimum wage hikes are unemployment machines that price the least skilled workers out of the market. It’s a price floor. If the value of low skill labor is below that line, the worker is priced out of a job. It does not magically make labor more valuable. In America Samoa, they cut thousands of jobs within 3 years (2007). In Seattle, a University of Washington study found that earnings of low wage workers fell as a result of hours lost (2015). In France, the minimum wage is so high relative to average pay that youth unemployment in the banlieues was at 25% for decades. In South Africa, households stopped hiring domestic workers they could no longer afford (2019). But if you’re an established worker who wants to eliminate the competition, it could be a solid move to support it.

There is also taxation; just because somebody has given you a fee note does not mean you pay that legal amount. If you look at the huge bulk of the amount of money lost in our taxpayers’ fees, it is not from legal fees #CitizenExplainer

UPDATE President Trump has confirmed that he is seeking a huge settlement from the Justice Department he controls for the various investigations and prosecutions against him. The New York Times reports he is seeking around $230 million. The president claims he will donate the funds to charity, but most of his recent settlements have gone to the foundation set up to pay for his presidential center and library in Miami. This means DOJ funds, appropriated by Congress, would pay for the promotion of his legacy.

There are 4 major entities that are affected by the Paramount x UFC deal - Paramount, UFC, the fans, and the fighters. It appears to be a huge win for Paramount, UFC, and the fans. The fighters, in my opinion, seem to be the big losers. Will their base pay go up? Is the introductory pay going up? Are we getting rid of the show-win model as a result? Are the performance bonuses now going to be 100K? What becomes of the champions with pay-per-view points?

We need to be less concerned with inmate pay and a *lot* more concerned with raising firefighter pay. The USFS doesn’t even classify Hotshots as firefighters, and they pay them 1/3 of what municipal firefighters get for doing the same job, and the USFS recently lost 40% of their firefighters. And it’s about to get even worse…Congress is about to cut their pay in half in a few months. Nearly every single CA congressman recently voted against raising their pay to a living wage.
